Over the last year and a half, we have witnessed how economic scenarios changed as the COVID-19 pandemic evolved. The emergence of new strains and the effectiveness of vaccines to combat them are pivotal to determine when social and economic normalcy will be achieved. The Delta variant (previously known as “Indian”) has consolidated in the UK forcing the British Government to delay the full lifting of restrictions by four weeks. In this report we analyse its impact on the UK, as well as is foreseeable evolution in Spain, both from the sanitary and economic perspectives. As such, we try to answer the following questions:
Will Delta become the dominant variant in Spain, and when?
Will the potential increase in cases fuel hospital admissions and deaths?
Are vaccines efficient against this new variant?
What drives social alarm and economic evolution accordingly?
Is public scepticism towards the vaccine a relevant issue?
