Many of our clients have expressed their concern over how difficult it is to hire workers in Spain in certain sectors which, in principle, do not require highly qualified workers. Wherever workers are in short supply, wages tend to climb precipitously and company margins fall. In this brief note, we will discuss the following question: Where have all the waiters gone who did not return to work after the pandemic? We will analyse what kinds of job positions appear to be experiencing a major labour shortfall. We will also be exploring our clients’ concerns about where the employees have gone who do not appear to have returned to their jobs after the pandemic, as well as the negative impacts that this is having, and what we can expect to see in the future.
